About English Tourism Week

Kicking off the summer season, English Tourism Week is an annual week-long celebration of events showcasing the quality and vibrancy of our visitor experiences and the value our industry brings to our nation.

Support your industry

The English tourism sector touches everyone – visitors, residents and employees. It’s one of the few sectors active in every part of the country. It’s the third largest employer, every day supporting 2.6 million jobs and providing a significant source of employment for those unable to work full-time. It’s a major employer of school leavers and young people and is an incubator for entrepreneurs.

The visitor economy is worth £106bn a year to England supporting thousands of businesses and seriously impacting on the performance of supplier industries including farming, transport, retailing, sport, museums and galleries, the theatre and other performing arts. Tourism cannot be offshored – it only happens here!

So find out more about how you can join in with English Tourism Week and support our valuable industry!

What’s in it for me?

There are many benefits to businesses getting involved in English Tourism Week. The whole idea is to provide you with a vehicle to kick start the season and promote your local tourism products.

English Tourism Week is designed to:

  • raise the profile and understanding of tourism with decision makers, the media, those who work in the industry and those considering a career in the industry;
  • increase awareness amongst consumers including local residents who can discover the delights on their doorstep and visitors from further afield who can experience England, its variety, accessibility and value;
  • provide a national framework for local destinations, businesses and organisations to use to build their own marketing and PR campaigns;
  • and provides you with a free marketing and communication “hook” to heighten awareness of your own activities.

English Tourism Week works best when everyone is involved. So get involved today!

HRH Prince Charles supports English Tourism Week

In 2013 His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales agreed to be Patron of English Tourism Week for five years until 2017.

Lady Cobham, Chairman of VisitEngland, commented: “We are delighted and honoured that His Royal Highness has agreed to assume patronage of English Tourism Week. England has a fantastic and diverse tourism product, of which we can all be incredibly proud, and the industry contributes £97billion to our economy. With the generous support of The Prince of Wales, we hope this week-long celebration will inspire people to become tourism ambassadors for their local area.”

The next English Tourism Week will take place on 5-13 March 2016.
